Today was a great day

This, to me, was the kind of day that doesn't come around all that often. It started out with the usual, "God, I don't want to go to work today", followed by "Sshheesh, why can't I just stay home and not do anything?" That's pretty much how it goes on work days around here. So, imagine my surprise when I was about to go in to see a patient and two of my co-workers said, "Good luck...you're gonna LOVE this family. They're gonna chew you up and spit you out. Now don't cry, ok?" Fabulous. Can't wait. I go in...dad is reclined on the exam table and reading a magazine. Obviously ignoring me and not wanting to give me the time of day. Things start off a little slow and then I don't know what I said or did, but soon the mom was talking to me, really opening up to the point of crying. I must have talked to them for 20 minutes before we left the exam room and she thanked me for being so kind and caring. I thought that would truly be the highlight of my day. It felt absolutely wonderful to know that I was able to break through the wall they had built up and to show them that there are people who care about them.

Then, I went back to my office and opened my email. There was a link from my friend Kirsty Wiseman. I watched it and openly cried at my desk. My co-workers were misty eyed too I believe. Anyway, just the thought that we may be able to help this family has put such joy in my heart. I know I have friends who read my blog and don't comment but email me and I would like for you to watch this and see how incredibly touching this sweet young lady is. We have arranged for her to see a few doctors while she's here and we are in hopes that they will give her some answers. This is a very huge deal to Ellie. I'm sure she's worried that she will not be able to accomplish her goal, and I can't tell you how monumentous this task is for her. She is very frail and her sweet little legs tire so quickly this one mile walk that she is willing to do is no small feat.
